Thank you for all the wonderful Christmas gifts

Students and Parents:
I have done something I have not done in twenty-five years of teaching--I lost my list of sweet student Christmas gift donors. I guess I will not be able to give each of you a personal thank-you note as I usually do, but I want to thank each and every one of you for the kind gesture of thinking of me at this holiday season. Sorry, the Internet has been down for a day, and we all panic! Isn't it something? --How we grow to depend on things?

Students should be studying for the Literature Unit 2 test which is Monday, 11/7. We read "The Telltale Heart" in class today. They have two worksheets front and back 129-30 and 179-80 to complete for tomorrow. They also need to study Vocabulary Lesson 8. Scores have been improving in vocabulary, and I have told them how proud I am and to keep up the good work. Iron Thunder by Avi is due the Monday we get back from Thanksgiving--Nov. 28. They need to come having read the book and bring it with them.

Take-Home Test on The Secret of Laurel Oaks. -- A formal academic writing. Students need to be careful and do a good job (100 points).

We are still working on the novel project. Presentations have been changed to Thursday. Voc. 4 list is out, and students should be completing the worksheet and studying the words for the test Friday. Grammar unit will officially begin either Friday (after voc. 4 test) or Monday.

We have no specific homework for Monday. The students are still working on a group project concerning The Secret of Laurel Oaks. My plans are to have the questions/answers/poster done by the end of the period on Tuesday. We will make presentations on Wednesday. We will have a test on the novel Thursday.
There will be Voc. 4 next week, though.

We will be working on an individual/group project and testing on The Secret of Laurel Oaks for the next week or so. Right now I am estimating that the question answers/poster/presentation should be next Wednesday9/29. The test should be Thurs. 9/30. I will let you know if there is a change.

Note

Just a note to parents: Any child who has been absent and missed an assignment, we have to put in a 0 until the work is made up. As soon as the child makes up the work, it will be changed and posted correctly.

Also--If your child has one of the books I have assigned, (or any assignment in which I give them permission), on the Nook, IPad, Kindle, etc., he/she may bring it to my class. However, he/she should not get it out in any other teacher's room unless that teacher has specified work to be done in class using it. Also, the school is not responsible for damage, loss, etc.

Please forgive me for forgetting to put yesterday's homework on. It was "one of those days." We are having The Trouble with Lemons test today. I do my best, but I am sure that I will occasionally forget. Remember that it is on the board every day, and I have encouraged your children to write it in their agendas when they get to class.

No homework over the Labor Day weekend. We will begin a regular routine of vocabulary each week starting Tues. Also, we will begin Literature Unit 1. Students should have their textbooks and have stored them at home for homework purposes. We have class sets to use here. I'm having trouble getting Barnes and Noble to deliver my books in a timely fashion. If your child has bought from me, he or she will hopefully receive the first book on Tuesday. I have changed the deadline for that book to September 21 because of the delay in getting them.
